Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

The Scientific Journal of the Academy of National Security welcomes original, scholarly, and research-based manuscripts that contribute to the advancement of knowledge in national security and related interdisciplinary fields. The journal encourages submissions addressing theoretical, empirical, methodological, historical, legal, political, technological, social, and strategic dimensions of security studies. Authors should ensure that submitted manuscripts are relevant to the scope of the journal and present a clear research problem, appropriate methodology, coherent analysis, and meaningful conclusions.

Manuscripts submitted to the journal should be original works that have not been published previously and are not simultaneously under consideration by another journal. Authors are responsible for ensuring that the manuscript is prepared carefully and that all information, data, quotations, tables, figures, and other materials are accurate and appropriately acknowledged. Where a manuscript involves research with human participants, confidential information, or other ethically sensitive material, authors should ensure that the study has been conducted in accordance with applicable ethical standards and institutional requirements.

Manuscripts should be written in clear, formal, and academically appropriate language. Authors should provide a concise and informative title, an abstract summarizing the purpose, methodology, principal findings, and conclusions of the study, and a suitable set of keywords. The main text should normally include an introduction, review of relevant literature or theoretical background, methodology where applicable, results or analysis, discussion, conclusion, and references. The structure may be adapted according to the nature of the submission, particularly for theoretical, historical, review, or conceptual contributions.

Authors should present research objectives or questions clearly and explain the significance and context of the study. Methodological procedures should be described sufficiently to enable readers to understand how the research was conducted and, where appropriate, to assess or reproduce the analysis. Quantitative, qualitative, comparative, historical, documentary, theoretical, and mixed-method approaches are acceptable when appropriately justified. Results and arguments should be presented logically, supported by reliable evidence, and discussed in relation to relevant scholarly literature.

All sources used in the manuscript should be cited consistently according to the journal's accepted referencing requirements. Authors should ensure that every work cited in the text appears in the reference list and that every reference listed is actually cited in the manuscript. Direct quotations should be used appropriately and accurately, while ideas, arguments, data, and findings derived from other sources should be properly acknowledged. Authors should verify the accuracy and completeness of bibliographic information before submission.

Tables, figures, charts, photographs, appendices, and other supplementary materials should be clearly numbered and appropriately titled. They should be referred to in the main text and supplied in a form suitable for editorial and production purposes. Authors should ensure that any material reproduced from external sources is appropriately acknowledged and that necessary permissions have been obtained where required.

All authors listed on a manuscript should have made a meaningful contribution to the conception, research, analysis, writing, or revision of the work. The corresponding author should ensure that all co-authors have approved the final manuscript and consented to its submission. Changes to authorship after submission should be communicated to the editorial office and should be supported by the agreement of the authors concerned.

Authors are expected to disclose any potential conflicts of interest that could influence the research or its interpretation. Any relevant sources of research support or institutional assistance should also be acknowledged where appropriate. Authors should maintain the integrity of their research data and be prepared to provide clarification or supporting information if requested by the editors.

Manuscripts undergo an editorial assessment to determine their suitability for the journal, followed where appropriate by peer review. Authors may be asked to revise their manuscripts in response to editorial or reviewer comments. Revised manuscripts should address the comments carefully and should be accompanied by a clear explanation of the changes made. The final decision regarding publication rests with the editorial team based on the quality, originality, relevance, and scholarly contribution of the manuscript.

Authors should carefully proofread their submissions before sending them to the journal. Manuscripts containing substantial plagiarism, fabricated or manipulated data, duplicate publication, undisclosed conflicts of interest, or other forms of academic misconduct may be rejected or subject to further editorial action. Authors are also expected to disclose the use of generative artificial intelligence or other automated tools when such tools have materially contributed to the preparation, analysis, or presentation of the manuscript, in accordance with the journal's applicable editorial requirements.

Submission of a manuscript indicates that the authors have reviewed these guidelines and agree to cooperate with the editorial and peer-review process. The editorial office may request additional information or revisions where necessary to ensure that manuscripts meet the journal's academic, ethical, and technical standards.

Privacy Statement

The Scientific Journal of the Academy of National Security respects the privacy of authors, reviewers, editors, readers, and other users who interact with the journal and is committed to protecting personal information provided through its website and editorial processes.
